Once a year, Bali goes quiet. For 24 hours, on Nyepi — the Balinese day of silence — the airport closes, the streets empty, lights go off, phones go silent. An island that runs on tourism stops. Even the shadows seem to pause.
Released in 2016, Navicula's acoustic ballad honors Nyepi as an act of cultural bravery in the middle of a tourism economy that otherwise never stops. This episode also examines Bali's 2019 regulation banning single-use plastics in shops, markets, and hotels — how it happened, how it's holding, and what it takes for a place to choose less over more.
