Jakarta is home to over ten million people and some of the worst air pollution in the world. Its traffic is legendary. Its sinking coastline is prompting the government to move the capital entirely. "Metropolutan" — Navicula's portmanteau of metropolitan and pollution — is about what runaway urban growth does to the people who live inside it.
In this episode, Longgena Ginting, Strategy and Analysis Director at Greenpeace Southeast Asia, explains what is actually in Jakarta's air and where it comes from. And the band tells the improbable story of how a song about pollution ended up winning an international competition and bringing them, briefly, to Hollywood.
